Our club runs entirely on the dedication of our volunteers.

The responsibility for our club lies with our board. Under the board, many committees and working groups are active — here are a few examples.

Most committees consist of our instructors and assistants, supported by other volunteers. That’s what makes us a real club: we work together as a team. And we’re pretty proud of that.

At H.G.V., for example, we’ve had a Youth Committee (J.C.) for many years. Its goal is to organize fun activities outside of the regular classes. Through these events, everyone at H.G.V. gets to know each other better. We also have a PR Committee that ensures our club is visible and well represented. Topics like this website, social media, performances, and demonstrations are regularly discussed there.

A lot is organized within our club, and many of these initiatives are supported by committees. The Sports Spectacle (anniversary show), club championships, the Your Stage gymnastics and dance gala (in collaboration with the KNGU), the Sports Festival (with other local clubs), and our very own Sportshow — just to name a few. On top of that, many club responsibilities are carried out by our team. Which is great, because many hands make light work!

Classes are taught by our instructors. In many youth classes, we work with assistants: teenagers who help during the lessons by, for example, guiding a small group of children. These assistants receive structured training — so it’s no surprise that many of our instructors started out as assistants themselves.

Confidential Contact Persons

Within sports club H.G.V., the board strives to make problems open for discussion — and that usually works well. Still, we prepare ourselves for situations where addressing an issue might be more difficult. For example, in cases of bullying, discrimination, (sexual) harassment, or other inappropriate behavior. Because you might not always feel comfortable going to the board, we have two confidential contact persons within the club.

Confidential Contact Persons (CCPs) serve as the first point of contact for members (athletes, parents, spectators, staff, volunteers, board members) with a complaint or question. They offer a listening ear, provide advice, and can refer you to the appropriate support. The CCP is familiar with available resources and support services. They also advise and encourage the club or federation to take preventive measures.

These conversations are generally confidential. However, this confidentiality has its limits: firstly, because of the general importance of a safe sports environment, and secondly, due to Dutch law, which in certain cases requires the CCP and board to break confidentiality. If this occurs, it creates a conflict of duties for the CCP — especially if they are made aware of a serious incident of inappropriate behavior during a confidential conversation. In such cases, consultation between the CCP and the board plays a key role in resolving this conflict. The board is responsible for the safety of its members, and the CCP must discuss any form of inappropriate behavior with the board, regardless of how the information was obtained. This does not break confidentiality, but it allows the board to assess how to act. Only when the board cannot take appropriate action without further details will it request specific information from the CCP, which may partially lift the confidentiality.
